Regional Resource Recovery Centre Tour

Friday 13 November - National Recycling Week

This free community tour provides ample opportunity to ask questions as well as visit:


  • The Green Waste Facility, where garden waste is turned into mulch
  • The Materials Recovery Facility, where recyclables are separated, baled and sold for reuse
  • The Education Centre, where there are lots more resources to help you to reuse, reduce and recycle

Low-waste decorations and gift wrapping workshop

The festive season is a wonderful yet wasteful time of year. Register for a morning of inspiration and practical suggestions for a low-waste, sustainable holiday period.

The workshop will include upcycling natural and non-recyclable items into decorations and the chance to try furoshiki wrapping, which uses reusable cloth as an alternative to plastic and paper wrap.

Sustainable gifting: Make a beeswax wrap

Get ready for sustainable gifting this festive season by Joining us for an informative, fun, hands-on workshop and learn to make your own beeswax food wrap. Beeswax wraps are an environmentally-friendly and reusable alternative to using cling wrap.


The workshop will be facilitated by Earth Girl, Karla Hooper, who will share an informative presentation on low-waste gift giving followed by a beeswax wrap making session. The workshop will include an introduction to beeswax wrap care and maintenance as well as a discuss about different methodologies.

FOGO Processing Facility Tour - Town of Bassendean Residents Only

The Town of Bassendean rolled out the 3-bin Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) system to households on 27 July 2020. To help residents understand the importance of only putting the correct things in the FOGO bin and learn how the contents is converted into soil improver, the EMRC are offering exclusive tours of the Red Hill Waste Management Facility to Town of Bassendean Residents. The tour will include a look at the FOGO processing area, the Landfill Gas & Power Station site, the tip face and the Transfer Station. Participants can also visit the Environmental Education Centre and learn what to do at home to reduce, reuse and recycle.
