Bin Collection

General Rubbish Collection

Household garbage is collected in your green lidded once a week throughout the Shire of Kalamunda. As soon as you move into a new home, please contact the Shire on 9257 9999 to arrange for delivery of new bins, which may take up to 5 working days.

Please refer to the 2009/2010 Waste & Recycling Guide for information on rubbish collection days.

Using Your Mobile Garbage Bin (MGB)

  • All household and garden refuse can be placed in the bin, but it cannot be used for hot or cold ashes, rocks, soil, liquids, solvents or heavy materials that may overload or damage the bin.
  • The bin can not exceed 70kg in weight, as it cannot be emptied by the lifting mechanism on the rubbish collection truck.
  • Please ensure the bin is places within 1 metre from the road by 6.00am on the morning of your pick up.  To avoid theft please move the bin back onto your property as soon as is practicable.
  • Please keep the bin clean by wrapping all garbage and perishable foodstuffs in newspaper or plastic bags.

Recycling Collection

The Shire of Kalamunda along with many other municipalities in the State, embraced the challenge through its Waste Minimisation Program that aims to reduce waste to landfill by 50%.  Currently our activities divert around 29% and this has largely been achieved through concerted efforts of residents through the fortnightly recycling service and the shredding of greenwaste for reuse through the spring and autumn Bulk Kebside Collection Service.  Your yellow lidded recycling MGB is collected fortnightly on the same day as your rubbish service.

Please refer to the 2009/2010 Waste & Recycling Guide recycling collection days.

Using Your Recycling Bin

The following items can be placed in your recycling bin:

  • Newspapers, glossy magazines, office paper, envelopes and ordinary paper.
  • Clean glass bottles and jars, but not their lids.
  • Clean steel, aluminium and aerosol cans.
  • Plastic beverage containers such as cool drink, milk, ice cream, yogurt and margarine containers.  Please remove the caps as this material is not recyclable.
  • Cardboard boxes (eg. Cereal boxes, empty pizza boxes and egg cartons).  It would help if you flattened these items before placing them in the yellow top wheelie bin.
  • Liquid paper board (milk and fruit juice containers) cleaned and flattened.
  • Items marked with a recycling symbol.
  • Phone books.
  • Yellow Pages – please split in half.
